W e’re now halfway through, Fall people! Can you believe it?
Does it feel like the year’s just flying by for anyone else? Yes? Maybe we need to pause and appreciate the current moment, Fall for all its glory. First up, maybe us Americans need to look at why we call this time of year as “Fall”….
Here’s 14 reasons why we’re unbelievably in love with Fall:
Pumpkin Spice Lattes
They’re back. So even when Starbucks writes my name, Jyo, as ‘Jose’ as I pick up my drink, it’s cool, because guess what I’ll be sipping… #josethat!
Fall is an awesome time for outdoor festivals – minus the summer crowds & sweltering heat. Whether it’s chilling over craft beer at Oktoberfest; or taking your nieces & nephews to pumpkin patches, corn mazes & hay rides; or galavanting on a fancy night out at the opening season of Opera, there’s bound to be a fall festival to stoke your Mojo fancy. Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead festival), anyone?
Oh fall colors, how we sing praises of thee! Look at this magical transformation of your backyards, your drive to work or pathways to your neighborhood. If Fall feels magical, it’s probably because you’re walking through this rainbow of colors.
Speaking of the day of the dead…. it’s impossible not to have fun on Halloween! How awesome is it to see kids & pets rocking super cute outfits, and spooking them as they come trick or treating. You also get to dress up & play a completely larger than life character! What’s that, you say that’s you everyday? Touche, that’s self confidence, sister. *fingers snapping in air*

Cozying by a fireplace
With aforementioned Pumpkin Spice Latte or a hot chocolate. Or a smore. Or caramel popcorn. #droolingnow
I cannot say enough about the Mojo-riffic comforting power of Fall Foods: from creamy, velvetty Risottos; to savory soups & stellar stews it’s a tantalizing taste test. Don’t even get me started on Fall desserts: Pumpkin pie, Pecan tarts, Apple cider. What I love to make this time of year, is Persimmon Bread. Leaves your home smelling of cinnamon & nutmeg. #willieverstopdrooling
The ultimate culmination of Fall, the holiday to give thanks with our families. More importantly, it’s the reason we have Turducken (Turkey stuffed in a duck) & Piecaken (Pie and cake baked in 1 glorious creation).
Cheaper flight prices for getaways
Arguably the best time of year to travel – you avoid the crowds from summer, spring break and Christmas holiday. As a result, ticket prices are bound to be lower. Moreover, the weather is optimal this time of year, regardless of which destination in the world you’re considering. Now that’s even sweeter than a Pumpkin Spice Latte.
The season for 5K/10K runs & marathon season is upon us! It’s a great way to support your community, commit to a cause & challenge yourself. I was fortunate enough to participate in the Nike SF Women’s half marathon last year, which was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences.
For a desi (meaning “fellow Indian”… pretty much “homeboy” for Indian people), Diwali is like Christmas & July 4 rolled into one. Diwali is the festival of lights, celebrated by lights, ‘diya’, symbolizing good winning over evil. Folks light lamps, fireworks, exchange gifts & eat till they ALMOST explode. I’ve seen pants rip. (I call it DEPS: Deadly Exploding Pants Symptom, a sad result of Indian hospitality + Diwali buffets. Learn more about this important condition here.)
Call me cheesy, but I really can’t get enough of the light during fall. It looks different, a lot softer, like someone is holding a filter against the sun. Admiring the Fall light, peeking through the golden, purple & burgundy leaves, is one of life’s simplest pleasures. Mojo right there.
Perfect hiking & camping weather
Because the heat isn’t as blistering as during summer, the cool weather makes for a perfect outdoor jaunt: whether it’s camping or glamping; hiking or a bike ride, it’s a great time of year to head out & explore the Fall colors. Here in Northern California, it’s the perfect time to head to the beaches, for a bonfire party & catch a gorgeous sunset.
Cardigans, cosy cashmere sweaters, wool coats, boots & scarves. Ohh, we dig all this coziness. And it’s the perfect camouflage after noshing on all those pecan tart, pumpkin pies & apple pies.
What are your favorite things to do in Fall? Happy Mojo-finding this Fall!
